WHY’S THIS WINE FOR YOU?
This is perhaps Australia’s most iconic dessert wine. The NV De Bortoli 10 Year Old Black Noble is inspired by the original dessert wine made by Vittorio de Bortoli. A select amount of juice initially intended for their flagship noble one is reserved, fortified and left to age in barrel. The final wine is a blend across different vintages giving the wine an average age of ten years. This wine is entirely unique to both Australia and De Bortoli – a drinking experience unlike any other. This lusciously sweet wine is a melange of cocoa nibs, coffee, caramel and roasted hazelnuts. Indeed an iconic Australian drop and an outstanding wine.
DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS 2020 – PLATINUM
Opulent and plush with black fig, treacle, candied orange rind and hints of burnt caramel on the nose, while the palate is richly layered with bitter chocolate, coffee and lush peach.
CHRISTINA PICKARD – WINE ENTHUSIAST
Coffee hued, with a green olive rim, the nose of this wine is a luscious combo of roasted hazelnut, burnt sugar, coffee and fruit cake. Despite the opulence and intensity on the palate, the acidity is beautifully lifted and offers a welcome counterpart to the satiny sweetness. Dried fruit and nuts compose the endlessly long finish.
DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS 2019 – GOLD
Notes of citrus and caramelised lemon peel show the wonderful Semillon character here. The articulate palate is packed with appealing notes of walnut kernel and baking spice. Lovely wine.
HUON HOOKE – THE REAL REVIEW
(500ml) Full tawny-amber and the rim is yellow-green indicating substantial age. Very complex aged bouquet with old leather, smoky, walnut and dried fruit aromas, the palate likewise complex and rich, with high acidity and drying tannins. It’s like an old tawny port style but with the elevated acidity of a botrytis table wine – which is what it’s based on. Best with food, especially cheese.
A rare bird, with impressively sweet balance and freshness, showing walnut, white chocolate, brown sugar and exotic spice hints that linger on the open-weave finish. Sémillon made into a fortified wine and aged. Drink now. 1,000 cases made.
